Who We Are

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), founded in 1970, is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of families and individuals impacted by mental illness. NAMI Butler County was founded as an affiliate in 1989 and has worked faithfully since that time to provide hope and help to family, friends and individuals impacted by mental health disorders in and around Butler County. We do this through education, support, advocacy and working against stigma.

How We Operate

NAMI Butler County is staffed by two part-time employees, a board of directors and a host of volunteers. We also have approximately 100 active members and a mailing list of 800, all of which form the foundation of our organization.

What We Provide

NAMI Butler County provides mental health education to the community through monthly meetings, presentations to community organizations, a monthly newsletter and our website. Additional education is also provided to those directly impacted by mental health disorders; individuals and families, through our free signature programs. In addition, we provide information for those seeking mental health services, including telephone and personal support for those in crisis. We have a support group for graduates of our family-to-family group and a book club that discusses titles encompassing a variety of mental health topics (fiction and non-fiction).

How We Advocate For Others

We advocate locally, as well as on the state and national levels, for a better quality of life for those impacted by mental health disorders. We do this by advocating for improved laws, funding, housing, treatment options, and job training, to name a few. We sponsor the largest mental health awareness event in Butler county, NAMI Walks for the Mind of America, in October, in recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week. All of our services work toward reducing the stigma associated with mental illness in the community.
